Burn.
Our kiln-dried logs are independently certified, with a moisture content of 20% or less.
Since May 2021, firewood sold in the UK in volumes under 2m³ has had to be certified Ready to Burn. It is not a marketing badge. It is the law, and it exists because wet wood is genuinely bad for your appliance, your chimney and the air outside.
Our kiln-dried logs are certified under ID WS6053. You can check that on the Ready to Burn register. You should check it for anyone selling you logs, not just us.
What the
certificate means
More heat per log
Energy goes into warming the room rather than boiling off water, so you burn less wood for the same warmth.
Less deposit in the flue
Wet wood condenses as tar in the chimney. Dry wood leaves far less behind, which means fewer sweeps and less risk.
Lower emissions
Dry wood produces markedly fewer particulates than green or unseasoned wood, which is better for your street as well as your stove.
How we dry it
Kilns fired by our own offcuts.
Drying wood takes energy. Ours comes from the waste by-products of preparing the timber: the bark, chip and offcuts left over from splitting and cutting, rather than from bought-in fuel.
Most of the trade does not bother. It is the reason we can sell a properly dried log without the carbon cost that usually comes with one.
